He is the second of three children by his parents Maurice and Dorthis West (both deceased). He has one older sister (Raynola) and a younger (Linda). Pastor West is married to Sharron K. (Brown) West. They have five children, Kenisha, Malikah, Rashidah, Alisha, and Kenneth Aaron.

Pastor West accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at the age of twenty one. He accepted his call to the preaching ministry and preached his in trial message on August 29, 1982 at the Hillwood Baptist Church of Spencer, OK under Pastor O.B. Burroughs. He later served as assistant Pastor to Rev. Joe W. Hollins and the New Faith Baptist Church of Spencer, OK.

Pastor West has served the Saint Luke Baptist Church of Spencer, OK as Pastor since September 8, 1992. Pastor West earned a Masters of Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary in December 1998. He later earned a Doctorate of Theology in June 2005.
