THE GIFT OF MUSIC

From its infancy music and songs have been an intricate part of the church. Music and song are creations of God. From what we understand about Satan; it appears he was a leader of the Heavenly Musical Chorus. Think about how much music is a part of our lives.

Every high school and college has a school song. We are all familiar with the traditional wedding march. When we hear the organ strike up that familiar tune, we stand while turning to see the bride. Music plays an intricate part in our lives. No car is built without a radio and CD player. It has become standard equipment.

THE BIBLE TEACHES US SOME VALUABLE LESSONS ABOUT MUSIC:

  1. Music ministers to the soul. “These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the Lord after the Ark came to rest there. They ministered with music before the Tabernacle” (I Chronicles 6:31-32). Music, good or bad, ministers to the soul of man. That’s why believers should practice listening to Christian music.

  1. Music should carry the theme of Scripture. “Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge” (Psalms 119:54). Unlike much of the secular music industry, our life experiences can find hope, direction, and inspiration in Scripture. This in turn can spark a dynamic song based on Scripture.

  1. Believers are invited to make music to the Lord. “…I will sing to the Lord, I will worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs” (Psalms 100:1-2).

Music and singing are gifts from God that ministers to the soul. If you are a singer and/or musician, make music to the Lord. Listen to the kind of music that offers Biblical solutions to life’s problems. Listen to the kind of music that elevates Christ and builds up the church. Remember, it’s a gift from God.

SAINT LUKE COLLEGE STUDENTS

Keep our college students in your prayers as they prepare for their careers in the real world. Ask God to give them discipline in their studies, guidance, and their decisions making, while they live the life of a Christian on and off the college campus.
